A museum dedicated to the history of Brazil’s stock exchange—MUB3, or Museu da Bolsa do Brasil in the original Portuguese—was inaugurated this week at the building of São Paulo’s stock exchange B3, in the city’s historic downtown area.

Starting from the neoclassical architecture of the building, erected in the 1940s, the museum invites visitors to reflect on the history of the securities market, originated back in the 19th century. Its collection boasts a number of articles used in trading sessions since 1930—such as telephones and electronic panels—casting light on the technological evolution of the activity.

The museum also features videos and materials that illustrate the evolution of the institution, once called Bolsa de Mercadorias e Futuros (“Commodities and Futures Exchange”) in the 1990s and Bovespa in the 2000s. In addition to bringing accounts by prominent figures, the museum shows the public how trading sessions operated and how stocks were offered.

The project was made possible by Brazil’s Federal Law for Cultural Incentive and was sponsored by B3 itself.

The museum may be visited free of charge from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. MUB3 is also open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month with the same opening and closing times. The building is located at 15 de Novembro street, 275.
