The Brazilian government has unveiled Brazil’s Unified Approval Platform platform—PAU Brasil in the original acronym—for managing and approving the import and export of specimens, products, and by-products from the country’s native fauna and flora.

The platform will be controlled by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and should be operated alongside the Integrated Foreign Trade System (Siscomex), of the Ministry of the Economy. It should enable the issuance of permits and certificates. The tool is expected to become available on January 25.

Among the specimens to be allowed for international trade are fishes from both continental and sea waters. Also expected to be issued are licenses for the export of wood and charcoal, specimens, products, and by-products from native as well as exotic wildlife, as listed on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Requests may be lodged on Ibama’s website, on the CITES License Issuance System (Siscites).
