Brazil has reached 266,398 deaths from complications caused by COVID-19. In 24 hours, 987 new fatalities were confirmed. There are also 2,836 deaths under investigation by health teams.

The figures can be found in the daily update published by the country’s Ministry of Health on Monday (Mar. 8). The report combines data provided by state health secretariats on cases and deaths caused by COVID-19.

The total number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 11,051,665. From Sunday to Monday, 32,321 new positive diagnoses were confirmed by health teams.

The number of people recovered rose to 9,782,230. The amount of active cases being monitored by health teams is 1,002,947. It was the first time this figure tops 1 million.

Figures are usually lower on Sundays and Mondays due to reduced teams at the weekend and its impact on feeding health secretariats with data.
