COVID-19: Brazil hits new record with nearly 2k deaths in 24h
Brazil has reached a new record of deaths from COVID-19. In 24 hours, 1,972 new people were confirmed killed as a result of the novel coronavirus. The amount outweighed the previous 1,910 mark, reported on March 3.
The country’s total death toll now stands at 268,370. There are also 2,944 fatalities under investigations by health teams.
The number of patients recovered rose to 9,843,218. The amount of people being monitored with an active case is 1,010,841.
The figures can be found in the daily report published by the Ministry of Health yesterday evening (Mar. 10). The update combines data gathered by state and local health authorities on cases and deaths caused by COVID-19.
The amount of cases since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 11,122,429. Between Monday and Tuesday, 70,764 new positive diagnoses for the disease were registered.
States
The ranking of Brazilian states with the highest COVID-19 death tolls has São Paulo at the top (62,101), followed by Rio de Janeiro (33,824), Minas Gerais (19,605), Rio Grande do Sul (13,837), and Paraná (12,816).
Those with the lowest number of fatalities are Acre (1,071), Amapá (1,164), Roraima (1,191), Tocantins (1,601), and Sergipe (3,043).
