The number of deaths stemming from the pandemic of the novel coronavirus in Brazil has reached 146,675, after the 323 new fatal cases were added from Sunday to Monday. Another 2,540 deaths are being investigated.

The figures can be found in the daily update published Monday (Oct. 5) by the country’s Ministry of Health, which combines the data from the state health secretariats countrywide.

The country’s total case count is reported to have added up to 4,927,235 after the 11,946 new positive diagnoses were reported in 24 hours. Of these, 4,295,305 people have recovered from the disease. There are also 485,258 cases being monitored.

The amount of cases and deaths are lower on Sunday and Monday do to the limitations in feeding the data base and the ministry’s dashboard facing the local agencies on the weekend. The daily figures tend to go up on Tuesdays due to the accumulation of unreported cases counted on that day.

COVID-19 across the states

The states with the highest death tolls are São Paulo (36,220), Rio de Janeiro (18,780), Ceará (9,056), Pernambuco (8,340), and Minas Gerais (7,656). Those with the lowest amount of people killed by the disease are Roraima (661), Acre (667), Amapá (718), Tocantins (972), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,365).

As for cases, São Paulo has surpassed the 1 million threshold, with 1,004,579. Next come Bahia (316,005), Minas Gerais (308,466), Rio de Janeiro (273,338), and Ceará (243,106).
