President Bolsonaro admitted to hospital with abdominal pain

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted in the early hours of Monday (Jan. 3) to São Paulo’s Nova Star Hospital, where he should undergo a series of tests. An abdominal discomfort was reported as the reason behind the hospitalization. “The president is feeling fine. More information will be released later on, after the medical update,” an official note published this morning reads.

According to the medical staff, Bolsonaro had a case of intestinal obstruction. “He is stable now and receiving treatment, and should be re-assessed over the course of this morning by Dr. Macedo’s team. No discharge on the horizon at the moment,” the hospital note says.

Bolsonaro landed in São Paulo at around 1:30 pm after leaving the Marechal Luz fort, in São Francisco do Sul, on the coast of Santa Catarina state, where he spent New Year’s Eve.

In a post shared online, Bolsonaro said he was admitted to hospital at 3 am today. The president reported he is using a nasogastric tube and that more tests will be run “for a possible surgery on internal obstruction in the abdominal region.” He also pointed out that this is his second hospitalization “with the same symptoms.”
