COVID-19: Deaths top 255 thousand, cases near 10.6 mi

The number of people who succumbed to COVID-19 in Brazil rose to 255,720. In 24 hours, 778 deaths were reported, with another 2,811 fatalities under investigation in the country.

The total number of people infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 10,587,001. In 24 hours, 35,743 new cases were confirmed by sanitary authorities.

The data can be found in the daily update released by the Ministry of Health on Monday (Mar. 1). The document combines data provided by state health secretariats countrywide.

Altogether, there are 874,181 people with an active case of the disease being monitored by health agents, and 9,457,100 patients have recovered.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls are São Paulo (59,546), Rio de Janeiro (33,093), Minas Gerais (18,598), and Rio Grande do Sul (12,4700). Those with the lowest number of fatalities are Acre (1,012), Roraima (1,100), Amapá (1,142), Tocantins (1,532), and Rondônia (2,870).

São Paulo also ranks first in number of cases, with 2,044,699, followed by Minas Gerais (883,105), Bahia (686,057), Santa Catarina (675,577), and Paraná (650,236).
