COVID-19: Deaths surpass 225 thousand, case tally stands at 9.2 mi

The number of people who succumbed to COVID-19 in Brazil has escalated to 225,099. In 24 hours, 595 deaths were reported, with another 2,866 fatalities under investigation in the country.

The total amount of patients infected with the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 9,229,322. In 24 hours, 24,591 new cases were confirmed by sanitary authorities.

The data come from the daily update released by the Health Ministry on Monday evening (Feb. 1), with information submitted by state health secretariats.

Altogether, 926,256 people have active cases of the disease and are being monitored by health professionals; 8,077,967 are said to have recovered.

States

On the list with Brazilian states with the highest death tolls are São Paulo (53,090), Rio de Janeiro (29,848), Minas Gerais (15,094), Rio Grande do Sul (10,715), and Ceará (10,477). Those with the lowest death counts are Roraima (856), Acre (873), Amapá (1,064), Tocantins (1,386), and Rondônia (2,259).

São Paulo also ranks first in number of cases  (1,779,722), followed by Minas Gerais (736,265), Bahia (589,234), Santa Catarina (578,550), and Paraná (551,985).
