COVID-19: Deaths reach 226 thousand, cases 2.9 mi

The number of people who succumbed to COVID-19 in Brazil rose to 226,309. In 24 hours, 1,210 deaths were reported. Another 2,888 fatalities are being investigated.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the amount of people infected with the novel coronavirus has reached 9,283,418. From Monday to Tuesday, 54,096 new cases were confirmed by sanitary authorities.

The data can be found in the daily update published by the country’s Health Ministry on Tuesday evening (Feb. 2). The document combines figures submitted by state health secretariats throughout the country.

Altogether, there are 896,180 people with an active case of the disease being monitored by health workers and 8,160,929 patients have recovered.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls are São Paulo (53,455), Rio de Janeiro (30,004), Minas Gerais (15,126), Rio Grande do Sul (10,778), and Ceará (10,486).

Those with the lowest number of fatalities are Roraima (857), Acre (876), Amapá (1,066), Tocantins (1,391), and Rondônia (2,281).

In number of cases, São Paulo also ranks first (1,794,019), followed by Minas Gerais (740,972), Bahia (592,770), Santa Catarina (581,352), and Paraná (556,304).
