COVID-19: Brazil has had 5.98 mi cases, 168 thousand deaths

The pandemic of the novel coronavirus has led to the infection of 5,981,767 people since its beginning. In 24 hours, 35,918 new positive diagnoses for COVID-19 were reported in the update published Thursday (Nov. 19) by the Health Ministry with data sent through by state health secretariats.

Since the pandemic started, 168,061 people have died. From Wednesday to Thursday, 606 new deaths were identified. There are also 5,407,498 people recovered, and 2,173 deaths under investigation.

Last week, the ministry faced difficulties updating the data due to a problem in its computer network. In yesterday’s press conference, the ministry’s Executive Secretary Élcio Franco declared it was a hacker attack.

States

Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo (41,074), Rio de Janeiro (21,806), Minas Gerais (9,648), Ceará (9,467), and Pernambuco (8,890) have the highest death tolls. The states with the lowest number of deaths from the disease are Acre (710), Roraima (711), Amapá (785), Tocantins (1,146), and Rondônia (1,513).
