COVID-19: Brazil has another 1,200 deaths, 42,600 new cases

A total of 1,215 deaths due to the pandemic of the novel coronavirus have been reported in 24 hours, bringing the COVID-19 death toll to 122,596. The result is up one percent, as per the Health Ministry dashboard unveiled Tuesday (Sep. 1) with the figures of the last 24 hours. There are also 2,690 deaths under investigation.

Also from Monday to Tuesday, the state health secretariats identified 42,659 new infected people, raising the total case tally to 3,950,931. The figure is up one percent.

Also according to the official figures, 669,239 people are being monitored, and another 3,159,096 have recovered.

The lethality rate (number of deaths divided by the number of cases) stood at 3.1 percent. The mortality (deaths for every 100 thousand people) reached 58.3. The incidence of COVID-19 cases in every 100 thousand people is 1,880.1.

COVID-19 across the states

The states with the highest death count are São Paulo (30,375), Rio de Janeiro (16,217), Ceará (8,447), Pernambuco (7,614), and Pará (6,176), compared to Roraima (593), Acre (616), Tocantins (687), Amapá (663), and Mato Grosso do Sul (889), with the lowest.

As for the number of cases, São Paulo also ranks first (814,375), followed by Bahia (259,418), Rio de Janeiro (226,800), Minas Gerais (218,781), and Ceará (216,333).
