To follow in real time the numbers confirmed by the world, the Center for Science and Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (USA) has developed a website for monitoring the spread of coronavirus in all countries of the world. The website presents a graph with real-time data, based on the numbers provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and centers for disease control in different countries.

Coronavirus

The new virus is identified as a variation of the coronavirus family. The first coronaviruses were identified in the mid-1960s, according to the Ministry of Health. The variation that is infecting many people in China and 12 other countries is technically known as 2019-nCoV. The first cases were recorded in the city of Wuhan.

It is not yet known how the first transmission to humans took place, but the suspicion is that it was from some wild animal – research by Chinese scientists says the most likely hypothesis is that the animal is a snake.

The virus can be spread from person to person. Symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing and shortness of breath were identified. In more severe cases, pneumonia, renal failure and severe acute respiratory syndrome are recorded.

For disease prevention, WHO recommends hand hygiene, covering the mouth and nose when sneezing and cooking meat and eggs well. The disease does not yet have a vaccine. The estimate is that it will take at least 3 months for researchers to be able to obtain a prevention option.
