Brazil concludes Women’s Nations League first phase with victory

Brazil’s women’s volleyball team wrapped up the initial phase of the Nations League with a win. On Sunday (Jul. 2), the Brazilian team secured a victory over Thailand, defeating them in three sets to zero in the capital Bangkok.

The Nations League brings together the world’s top 16 teams. During the first round, the teams competed in four matches over four weeks at various locations, resulting in a total of 12 duels. The top eight teams advanced to the knockout stage, which will be held in Arlington, USA, from July 12 to 16.

Under the guidance of coach José Roberto Guimarães, the Brazilian team entered the court already qualified, thanks to Serbia’s loss to the Dominican Republic in the early hours of Saturday (1). The Brazilians secured their place with the fourth-best performance and will now face China, who finished fifth in the first round, in the quarterfinals, on July 13.

The winner of the match between Brazil and China will go on to face the winner of the Poland versus Germany match, on July 15. Poland had the most outstanding performance in the first round, while Germany secured the eighth spot. The remaining quarterfinal matches will be between the United States (second) and Japan (seventh), as well as Turkey (third) and Italy (sixth). Having been runners-up in the last three editions of the Nations League, the Brazilian women are determined to clinch their first-ever title.

Men’s Competition

Starting on Tuesday (4), the fourth and final week of the men’s Nations League’s initial phase will commence. Brazil will compete in Pasay, the Philippines, and will kick off their series of four matches against Italy. The Brazilian team will then face off against the Netherlands, Poland, and China. Coached by Renan Dal Zotto, the reigning champions from 2021 are currently in third place. The men’s final round is scheduled to take place in Gdansk, Poland, between July 19 and 23.
