COVID-19: Brazil reports 30,891 cases, 753 deaths in 24h

In 24 hours, 30,891 new cases of COVID-19 and 753 deaths from the disease were registered across Brazil. The data were published by the country’s Ministry of Health in its daily report, released Thursday (Sep. 9).

The figures take the nation’s total death toll to 585,174. According to the ministry, the country saw its moving average (total amount of fatalities in a week divided by seven) reach 543, the lowest since December 6.

The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus rose to 20,958,899 after latest figures from Thursday were added. The moving average of cases is 20.1 thousand, the lowest since the beginning of the year, the ministry declared.

Recoveries surpassed 20 million, adding up to 20,002,562—95.4 percent of the people infected in Brazil since the pandemic started. There are also 371,163 active cases being monitored.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death counts for COVID-19 stand São Paulo (146,828), Rio de Janeiro (63,545), Minas Gerais (53,424), Paraná (37,904), and Rio Grande do Sul (34,400).

Those with the lowest number of fatalities are Acre (1,815), Roraima (1,958), Amapá (1,960), Tocantins (3,706), and Sergipe (6,002).

Vaccination

The latest stats from the ministry’s vaccination dashboard show that 203.9 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered throughout the country—135.5 million as the first dose, 68.4 million as the second.
