The Brazilian tourism invoiced R$ 18.3 billion in July, reported this Friday (16) the Tourism Council of the Federation of Goods Trade, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP). According to the federation, this meant growth of 32.1% compared to the same period last year and the result was driven by school vacations.

Compared to July 2019, before the covid-19 pandemic, sales were 2% lower.

The segment that contributed most to the tourism upswing in July was air transport, which grew 86.8% year-on-year, followed by accommodation and food services (22%) and cultural, recreational and sporting activities (18.8%).

In absolute values, the air transport sector contributed with R$6.2 billion of this total sector’s revenues. Accommodation and food services, on the other hand, invoiced R$ 5.2 billion. The ground transportation sector, composed of intercity, interstate, and international buses, as well as tourist trains, totaled R$ 2.9 billion.
Next came the segments of car rental, travel agencies and tour operators (billing of R$ 2.7 billion in July); cultural, recreational and sporting activities (R$ 1.27 billion); and water transportation (R$ 49 million).
