The Planalto presidential palace holds until November 15 an exhibition on the 200 years of Brazil’s Independence. President Jair Bolsonaro and First Lady Michele Bolsonaro opened the event on Monday (Aug. 15) by signing the visitors’ book.

Items like flags, stamps, coins, photographs, and other historical documents are spread across the first floor of the Planalto Palace, which can be visited, among others, by students from public schools in the Federal District and nearby regions.

“For sure, the young generations and those who are to come will remember us, for what we have done, not for Independence, because that belongs to those who lived 200 years ago, but for what we have done for the greatest good of any people, which is their freedom. So, it is with this spirit that this exhibition is being opened and celebrations will take place throughout the country until September 7 (Independence day),” said Bolsonaro during the opening ceremony.
