Agents of Brazil´s National Public Security Force will work for 90 days in the Alto Rio Guamá Indigenous land, in Pará state, to support the National Indigenous Foundation FUNAI. The ordinance authorizing the use of the National Force was published today (Jun. 30) in the Government´s Official Gazette.

The military force will act to preserve public order and property, and people´s security, according to the National Force’s plan, and will count on FUNAI´s logistics support.

Alto Rio Guamá is located in the region of the municipalities of Capitão Poço, Nova Esperança da Piriá, and Paragominas, in the state of Pará. It is part of the ancestral territory of the Indigenous people of the Tenetehar ethnic group, who used to live in large areas between the states of Pará and Maranhão.
