COVID-19: Brazil case tally down after adjustment in data base

The report released this Tuesday (Sep. 21) by the Brazilian Ministry of Health showed 21,247,094 people with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The total is lower than the previous day, when the tally stood at 21,247,667. This happened because Ceará state, in Northeast Brazil detected duplicated cases and adjusted its data base.

The number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 went up to 20,250,198—95.2 percent of the people infected in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Also registered were 305,456 cases being monitored. These are people who had their diagnosis confirmed and are being cared for by health teams or recovering at home.

The correction in the data base did not affect the counting of fatalities. In 24 hours, 485 new deaths were reported, bringing the total death toll to 591,440.

States

Atop the list of Brazilian states by number of death stand São Paulo (148,295), Rio de Janeiro (64,918), Minas Gerais (54,095), Paraná (38,556), and Rio Grande do Sul (34,617).

The lowest amount of deaths is seen in Acre (1,835), followed by Amapá (1,972), Roraima (1,987), Tocantins (3,747), and Sergipe (6,177).

Vaccination

According to the latest update by the Health Ministry, 223.4 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered, 142.2 million as the first dose, 81.2 million as the second or only dose. In 24 hours, 751.4 thousand doses were administered.
