Brazil has surpassed the milestone of 70 million people immunized with the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19. According to the Health Ministry, 71,152 million Brazilians have received the first dose of the inoculation. The total amounts to 45 percent of the 158.095 million people aged 18 and older. The number was reached Saturday (Jun. 26).

A total of 25.583 million Brazilians have received the two doses of the vaccine AstraZeneca, CoronaVac, or Pfizer, or the single dose of the Janssen shot, thus completing the immunization cycle. This cover 16.2 percent of the vaccinable population, and 36.2 percent of the amount of people who have received the first dose.

The data can be found on the LocalizaSUS vaccination dashboard, a platform maintained by Brazil’s Health Ministry gauging the progress of the immunization campaign against COVID-19.

Distribution

The Ministry of Health has distributed 129,720 million doses to the states since the beginning of the immunization campaign. At first, Brazil had only two-dose vaccines (AstraZeneca, CoronaVac, Pfizer) available. Last Tuesday (22), however, the country started administering the single-dose Janssen shot.

More than 1.8 million doses of the Janssen vaccine have been brought forward under the contract for 38 million shots from the pharmaceutical company. They had been scheduled to arrive starting in October. Last Friday (25), another 3 million doses of the Janssen vaccine were donated by the US government for the immunization of the Brazilian population.
