Three million doses of the Janssen vaccine against COVID-19, donated by the UN government, reached the International Airport of Viracopos, in Campinas, São Paulo state, Friday morning (Jun. 25). The batch is estimated to cost $29.

Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga welcomed the arrival of the inoculation alongside US Ambassador to Brazil Todd Chapman. Queiroga expressed his gratitude for the collaboration with the US government.

“Right now, we are receiving this donation, but, in the future, Brazil and the US will together do a lot more for the countries in Latin America and for the poorer countries facing this disease,” the minister said.

Ambassador Todd Chapman said that “these three million doses represent the largest donation we have ever made to any nation.”

The single-dose jab has been approved for emergency use by Brazil’s drug regulator Anvisa for emergency use and is produced by pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson.
