Brazil’s total COVID-19 case tally stands at 18.2 million

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 18,243,483 people been infected with the novel coronavirus. From Wednesday (Jun. 23) to Thursday (24), 73,602 new cases were confirmed. On Wednesday (23), Brazil state dashboard for COVID-19 showed a case tally of 18,169,881. According to data disclosed yesterday by the Health Ministry, the country also has 1,222,641 active cases being monitored.

Lives lost to the pandemic now total 509,141. In 24 hours, 2,032 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported. On Wednesday, the number of deaths caused by complications linked to the disease stood at 507,109.

There are also 3,611 deaths under investigation, as sometimes the cause of death is determined after the patient dies.

The total number of people who contracted COVID-19 and recovered went up to 16,511,701—90,5 percent of the total infected with the virus.

States

Atop the ranking of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls for COVID-19 stands São Paulo (124,606), followed by Rio de Janeiro (54,848), Minas Gerais (45,245), Rio Grande do Sul (30,873), and Paraná (30,338). Listed with the lowest death counts are Roraima (1,723), Acre (1,735), Amapá (1,817), Tocantins (3,148), and Alagoas (5,218).

Vaccination

Thus far, 129,5 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been distributed to states and municipalities, of which 92.9 have been administered—68.1 million as the first dose, 24.7 million as the second.
