Deaths from COVID-19 reach 217.6 thousand in Brazil

The number of lives lost to the pandemic of the novel coronavirus has reached 217,664 in Brazil. In 24 hours, 627 fatalities were confirmed by health teams, with another 2,860 fatalities under investigation by health professionals.

The figures come from the report by the Health Ministry, released Monday (Jan. 25). The survey combines data on cases and deaths sent by state health secretariats across the country.

The number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic escalated to 8,871,393, after 28,816 new patients infected with COVID-19 from Sunday to Monday were reported. Of these, 7,709,602 have recovered from the disease. Also notified are 944,127 people with active cases of the disease being monitored by health agents.

States

Atop the list with Brazilian states with the highest death tolls is São Paulo (51,556), followed by Rio de Janeiro (28,856), Minas Gerais (14,305), Ceará (10,332), and Pernambuco (10,200).

The states with the lowest amount of fatalities are Roraima (821), Acre (854), Amapá (1.032), Tocantins (1,348), and Rondônia (2.128).
