COVID-19: Brazil has 205.9 thousand dead, 8.25 mi cases in total

The number of deaths due to the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 205,964. In 24 hours, 1,274 lives were reported to have been lost to COVID-19. There are also 2,672 fatalities under investigation.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the amount of infected people has totaled 8,256,536. From Tuesday to Wednesday, health authorities confirmed 60,899 new positive diagnoses.

The figures were released during a press conference by the Health Ministry team late on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 13). The report combines data on cases and deaths collected and submitted by state health secretariats.

Also according to the document, 7,316,944 have recovered from the disease, but there are also 733,628 people with active cases being monitored by health professionals.

States

Atop the list with the highest death tolls are São Paulo (48,985), Rio de Janeiro (27,241), Minas Gerais (12,894), Ceará (10,189), and Pernambuco (9,919). The states with the lowest dearth counts are Roraima (800), Acre (829), Amapá (987), Tocantins (1,286), and Rondônia (1,965).
