Brazil reports 55,202 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours

The report published Tuesday (Dec. 22) by Brazil’s Ministry of Health shows 55,202 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours. The case tally since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 7,318,821. From Monday to Tuesday (22), 968 deaths were confirmed, adding up to 188,259.

According to the figures, 6,354,972 people (86.8%) have recovered from COVID-19.

The report combines data gathered by state health secretariats countrywide.

COVID-19 across the states

São Paulo still has the highest case count—1,389,757. The other states with the highest caseloads are Minas Gerais (503,700) and Bahia (473,865). Acre has the lowest number of cases (40,314), followed by Amapá (65,712) and Roraima (67,686).
