COVID-19: Brazil reaches 179.7 thousand deaths, 6.78 mi cases

People who died as a result of the pandemic of the novel coronavirus now total 179,765. In 24 hours, 770 deaths from COVID-19 were reported. There are also 2,313 fatalities under investigation.

The amount of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 6,781,799. From Wednesday to Thursday (Dec. 10), health authorities notified 53,347 new positive diagnoses for COVID-19. This is the second consecutive day with over 50 thousand cases in a single day, resuming the pace of contamination seen in July and August.

The figures were unveiled during a press conference held by the Ministry of Health on Thursday evening. The data come from state health secretariats countrywide.

Also registered were 670,257 patients being monitored; 5,931,777 have recovered from the illness.

Across the states

The list with Brazilian states with the highest death tolls is headed by São Paulo (43,661), Rio de Janeiro (23,546), Minas Gerais (10,499), Ceará (9,768), and Pernambuco (9,229).

Those where the death count stands lowest are Acre (744), Roraima (749), Amapá (842), Tocantins (1,192), and Rondônia (1,628).
