COVID-19: Brazil reports 51 thousand cases, 842 deaths in 24h

In 24 hours, 842 new deaths from COVID-19 and 51,088 new cases of the disease were reported in Brazil. There are 642,131 patients being monitored and 5,854,709 people have recovered. The update was published by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday evening (Dec. 8).

Deaths as a result of the pandemic of the novel coronavirus added up to 178,159 in this survey; 2,230 deaths are under investigation.

The number of people infected with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 6,674,999.

The ministry’s report is released on a daily basis and combines data from state health secretariats. The case tally is usually lower on Sundays and Mondays due to difficulties facing health agents feeding the database. On Tuesdays, they may surge as figures are brought up to date.

States

The list with Brazilian states with the highest death tolls for COVID-19 is headed by São Paulo (43,282), Rio de Janeiro (23,270), Minas Gerais (10,345), Ceará (9,738), and Pernambuco (9,186).

The states with the lowest death counts are Acre (737), Roraima (744), Amapá (834), Tocantins (1,187), and Rondônia (1,610).
