People who died as a result of the novel coronavirus totaled 117,317 on Monday (Dec. 7). In 24 hours, 376 new deaths were reported. On Sunday (6), the dashboard of Brazil’s Ministry of Health about COVID-19 read 176,941. There are also 2,196 deaths under investigation.

The figures can be found in the report released by the ministry on Monday evening (7). It combines data sent through by health state secretariats countrywide.

The number of people infected by the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 6,623,911. From Sunday to Monday, health authorities notified 20,371 new positive diagnoses for COVID-19. Yesterday, the ministry’s dashboard showed a total case count of 6,603,540.

Also according to the document, 645,527 patients are being monitored. Another 5,801,067 have recovered from the disease.

The case count is usually lower on Sundays and Mondays due to difficulties facing local health agents feeding the database. On Tuesdays they may rise as previously uncounted cases are finally computed.
