Brazil COVID-19 death toll surpasses 170 thousand

The number of people killed as a result of the pandemic of the novel coronavirus in Brazil has surpassed 170 thousand. In 24 hours, 630 deaths were registered, raising the count to 170,115. There are also 2,202 deaths under investigation.

The report was published by the country’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday (Nov. 24), and is based on data relayed by state health secretariats.

The pandemic has caused the infection of 6,118,708 people in Brazil since the first case, in February. From Monday to Tuesday, health authorities reported 31,100 new positive diagnoses. There are also 472,575 patients being monitored. Of the total infected, 5,476,018 have recovered from the disease.

COVID-19 across the states

The states with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 are São Paulo (41,455), Rio de Janeiro (22,141), Minas Gerais (9,804), Ceará (9,492), and Pernambuco (8.951).

Those with the lowest death tallies Acre (715), Roraima (721), Amapá (795), Tocantins (1,151), and Rondônia (1,529).
