Lula meets with Australian Prime Minister in Japan

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met on Friday (May 19), in Hiroshima, Japan, with the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, who invited him to attend the Women’s Soccer World Cup in Australia, in July. 

Lula and Albanese also discussed environmental issues, labor relations, specifically concerning gig workers, and the importance of enhancing trade relations between their respective countries.

On social media Lula shared about his meeting with the Australian Prime Minister, noting that it was the first encounter between the two countries since 2018. He expressed his commitment to strengthening the bond between Brazil and Australia, stating, “We will work towards further closeness between our nations.”

Agenda 

Brazil’s official participation in the G7 Summit starts this Saturday (20) with two debate sessions, one of which will address international cooperation to prevent crises, particularly emphasizing food security.

On Saturday, the Brazilian president will also hold private meetings with at least six authorities.

On Sunday (21), Lula will partake in the final session of the G7 Summit, followed by private meetings with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, as well as the prime ministers of India and Vietnam.

In the late afternoon on Sunday, he will engage in a meeting with Japanese businessmen. On Monday (22) he will hold a press briefing before his return to Brazil.
