Paralympic Athletics: Brazil starts Marrakech GP with 4 medals

Brazil won Thursday (Mar. 9) four medals on the first day of disputes at the Paralympic Athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech (Morocco). Three of them were gold medals, won by Beth Gomes in the discus throw, Lorraine Aguiar in the 100 meters T12 class (low vision), and Jerusa Geber in the 100 meters T11 class (totally blind).

Current Olympic champion in the F53 (wheelchair users) discus throw, 58-year-old Beth Gomes, from São Paulo, proved once again that she is the big name in the event. She reached the 15.24 meters mark and won the first place. In the same modality, but in the F46 class (upper limb deficiency), 19-year-old Sueli Pereira secured a bronze medal with a throw of 28.12 meters.

The Brazilian team secured two other gold medals in speed events. Lorraine Aguiar won the 100 meters in the T12 class (low vision) in 13s11. In the same distance, but in the T11 class (totally blind), Jerusa Geber completed the race in 12s49.
