Brazil’s national drug authority Anvisa received additional data from the Butantan Institute on the authorization of the CoronaVac shot for children aged three through five years old. As it stands today, the immunization has only been allowed for kids older than six.

The submission yesterday (Jun 1) was a decision made during a meeting on the May 25 between the institute and Anvisa, which will now give the matter further consideration.

“Anvisa will start a technical analysis and evaluate the need for a new discussion with medical associations,” the agency declared in a statement. In the note, Anvisa stresses “its commitment to the evaluation of vaccines, basing its actions on the law and the parameters established in its norms, in line with the main international authorities and scientific principles.”
