Superior Electoral Court ready to face cyberattacks

Minister Edson Fachin, who is assuming the position of President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) next week, said on Tuesday (15) the court has a “robust set of challenges” ahead, but it is “attentive and prepared” to face risks such as cyberattacks and authoritarian threats.

“We will face noisy threats of authoritarian populism, factual distortions and conspiracy theories, which – added to extremism – attempt to impair historical and traditional recognition of the Electoral Justice,” said Fachin.
The minister’s statements were made during a transition meeting with the current TSE President Luís Roberto Barroso. In his speech, Fachin introduced his working team and spoke about his management targets. Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who will be the vice president of the court, has also participated in the event.
According to Fachin, a program to manage the institutional reputation of the Superior Electoral Court shall be carried out under the coordination of Professor Fernando Franco Alvim, the new special advisor for fighting disinformation.
Regarding cyber risks, the minister said that there are threats of attacks from different forms and origins. He has mentioned Russia as an example of the origin of such attacks.
“There is a maximum alert level which has been increasing. The war against security in the cyberspace of the Electoral Justice was declared some time ago. Violating the security structure of the Superior Electoral Court opens a door to the ruin of democracy. Those who sponsor this chaos know what they are doing to undermine the rule of law,” the minister said.
