COVID-19: Brazil reports 24.6k cases, 648 deaths in 24h

In 24 hours, Brazilian health authorities registered 24,611 cases of COVID-19 and 648 deaths stemming from the disease. The figures can be found in the latest report by the Ministry of Health, released Thursday (Sep. 23).

After the newly confirmed cases were added, the total number of people contaminated since the beginning of the pandemic in Brazil reached 21,308,178. A total of 20,319,520 have recovered, which accounts for 95.4 percent of the people infected in Brazil since the pandemic started.

Also reported were 395,694 active cases being monitored. These are people who had their positive diagnosis confirmed and are being taken care of by health teams or recovering at home.

The amount of people who lost their lives to the disease now stands at 592,964.


Atop the list of Brazilian states with the highest death toll for COVID-19 are São Paulo (148,688), Rio de Janeiro (65,382), Minas Gerais (54,212), Paraná (38,685), and Rio Grande do Sul (34,700).

Those with the lowest number of fatalities are Acre (1,836), Amapá (1,975), Roraima (1,988), Tocantins (3,757), and Sergipe (6,007).


The latest data from the Health Ministry show that 227.1 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered across Brazil, 143.3 million of which as the first dose and 83.8 million as the second. In 24 hours, 1.8 million doses were administered.
