COVID-19: Brazil has 20.3 mi cases, 569k deaths

The number of deaths from COVID-19 has reached 569,411 in Brazil, according to data released by the Health Ministry Sunday (Aug. 15). Also registered were 270 deaths from Saturday to Sunday.

In the same period, 13,957 new diagnoses of the disease were recorded, adding up to 20,364,099 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

The ministry’s report also shows 576,411 patients being monitored and 19,218,630 people recovered from the disease.

States

The Brazilian states with the highest death toll for COVID-19 are São Paulo (142,588), Rio de Janeiro (60,647), Minas Gerais (51,849), Paraná (36,484), and Rio Grande do Sul (33,756).

The states with the lowest number of fatalities are Acre (1,807), Roraima (1,916), Amapá (1,936), Tocantins (3,615), and Sergipe (5,948).

Vaccination

Brazil’s Health Ministry further reported that 202.5 million vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been distributed across the states and the federal district. Altogether, 114.1 million people have received the first dose, and 49.2 million have completed the inoculation cycle.
