COVID-19: Cases total 18,054,653 and deaths 504,7 thousand

Brazil has surpassed 18 million people infected since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The updated report released by the country’s Ministry of Health Tuesday (Jun. 22) shows that 87,822 new cases of the diseases were registered in 24 hours. The total number of sick people now stands at 18,054,653.

The amount of people who recovered from COVID-19 since the pandemic started went up to 16,388,847—90.8 percent of the total infected. The country also has 1,161,089 active cases being monitored.

Those who succumbed to the pandemic now add up to 504,717. From Monday to Tuesday, 2,131 new deaths from COVID-19 were confirmed.

States

With 123.1 thousand deaths, São Paulo ranks first among the Brazilian states with the highest death tolls. Next come Rio de Janeiro (54,452), Minas Gerais (44,623), Rio Grande do Sul (30,605), and Paraná (30,148).

The states with the lowest number of fatalities are Roraima (1,713), Acre (1,734), Amapá (1,807), Tocantins (3,119), and Alagoas (5,176).

Vaccination

Thus far, 123.2 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been sent to states and municipalities. Of these, 83.7 million doses have been administered—61 million as the first dose, 22.6 million as the second.
