Deaths from COVID-19 add up to 487.4 thousand, cases reach 17,4 mi

The total number of people who have contracted COVID-19 since the pandemic started in Brazil went up to 17,412,766. In 24 hours, 37,948 new cases of the disease were notified. The country has 1,130,817 people with an active infection being monitored. The data come from the daily report released Sunday (Jun. 13) by the Ministry of Health.

The report combines figures collected by health state secretariats on deaths and cases, adding that, since the beginning of the pandemic, 15,794,548 have recovered from COVID-19—90.7 percent of the cases.

The country’s death toll now stands at 487,401. From Saturday to Sunday, 1,129 new fatalities were notified.

States

The ranking of Brazilian states with the highest death tolls for COVID-19 is headed by São Paulo (118,121). Next come Rio de Janeiro (52,998), Minas Gerais (43,124), Rio Grande do Sul (29,672), and Paraná (28,135). Those with the lowest number of lives lost to the disease are Roraima (1,679), Acre (1,712), Amapá (1,762), Tocantins (3,019), and Alagoas (5,002).

Vaccination

As per the latest figures, the government announced 109,4 million vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been distributed to states and municipalities. Of these, 72,1 million doses have been administered—50.5 million as the first dose (23.7%) and 21.5 million as the second (10.1%).
