COVID-19: Death toll exceeds 247 thousand, case count reaches 10.2 mi

The number of people who succumbed to COVID-19 in Brazil rose to 247,143. In 24 hours, 639 deaths were reported. There are also 2,833 deaths under investigation in the country.

The total amount of people infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 10,195,160. In 24 hours, 26,986 new cases were confirmed.

The figures can be found in the latest update released by the Health Ministry on Monday evening (Feb. 22). The document combines data provided by state health secretariats countrywide.

A total of 808,802 people have an active case of the disease and are being monitored by health professionals; 9,139,215 patients have recovered.

States

Atop the list with Brazilian states with the highest death tolls stands São Paulo (57,842), followed by Rio de Janeiro (32,256), Minas Gerais (17,733), and Rio Grande do Sul (11,820). Those with the lowest death counts are Acre (968), Roraima (1,037), Amapá (1,125), Tocantins (1,485), and Rondônia (2,940).

São Paulo also ranks first in number of cases (1.978.477). Next come Minas Gerais (842,377), Bahia (655,481), Santa Catarina (641,840), and Paraná (617,165).
