Brazil reports over 10 mi cases of COVID-19

Brazil’s Health Ministry’s report on the country’s epidemiological situation, released Thursday evening (Feb. 18), shows that Brazil has confirmed over 10 million cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

A total of 51,879 new diagnoses of the disease were reported in 24 hours. Altogether, the country has notified 10,030,626 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus.

The amount of deaths caused by the disease now stands at 243,457, with 1,367 new fatalities since the previous update. The number of recovered patients has reached 8,995,246—89.7 percent of all the infected. According to the ministry, 791,923 people are being monitored by health agents.

São Paulo still stands atop the list of Brazilian states hardest-hit by the disease. In all, 1,949,459 cases were registered in the state, with 57,240 fatalities. Minas Gerais and Bahia are still second and third—with 822,448 cases and 17,249 deaths, and 643,244 cases and 10,995 deaths, respectively.
