COVID-19: Brazil has 27,750 new cases, 729 deaths in 24h

Health authorities have reported 27,750 new cases and 729 deaths in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19.

The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 148,957, compared to 148,228 the day before. Another 2,346 are under investigation.

The data were made available by the Health ministry in its Thursday (Oct. 8) report. The update includes data sent through by health secretariats across the country.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic started add up to 5,028,444. Yesterday, the dashboard showed 5,000,694 cases.

There are also 464,923 cases being monitored. According to the Health Ministry, another 4,414,564 people have recovered from the disease.

COVID-19 across the states

With 215 deaths and 5,649 cases reported in the last 24 hours, the state of São Paulo now has 36,884 deaths and 1,002,404 confirmed cases since the pandemic of the novel coronavirus started.

Of the total of diagnosed cases, 898,416 people have recovered.

The number of patients hospitalized across the state in suspected or confirmed cases of the new coronavirus is 8,753. Of these, 3,726 people are in a serious state. The bed occupancy rate in intensive care units is 43.4 percent in the state and 42.2 percent in the Great São Paulo area.

The states with the highest death counts are São Paulo (36,884), Rio de Janeiro (19,110), Ceará (9,111) Pernambuco (8,387) and Minas Gerais (7,897). Those with the least cases are Roraima (666), Acre (669), Amapá (724), Tocantins (996), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,395).
