COVID-19: Brazil has had 121,300 deaths, 3.9 mi cases

In Brazil, since the beginning of the pandemic, 121,381 people have died due to COVID-19. In 24 hours, 553 new people were reported to have died from it. The figures are in the official update published by the Ministry of Health on Monday evening (Aug. 31). There are 2,708 deaths under investigation.

The number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic has reached 3,908,272. From Sunday to Monday, the state health secretariats added 45,961 new cases.

Also according to the document, 689,157 people are being monitored, and 3,097,734 have recovered.

The lethality rate (the amount of deaths divided by the case tally) stood at 3.1 percent. Mortality (deaths for every 100 thousand people) reached 57.8. The incidence of COVID-19 cases for 100 thousand people is 1,859.8.

COVID-19 across the states

The states with the highest death toll are São Paulo (30,014), Rio de Janeiro (16,065), Ceará (8,409), Pernambuco (7,593), and Pará (6,146). Those with the lowest number of fatal cases reported are Roraima (587), Acre (612), Tocantins (673), Amapá (661), and Mato Grosso do Sul (862).
