Brazil has confirmed 3,340,197 cases of COVID-19

The report released Sunday (Aug. 16) by the Health Ministry shows 620 new deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours, adding up to 107,852 since the pandemic started. Also registered were 23,101 new cases of the disease, raising the total case tally to 3,340,197—of which 2,432,456 (72.8%) people have recovered.

Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo has the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 (26,852), followed by Rio de Janeiro (14,562), Ceará (8,133), Pernambuco (7,188), and Pará (5,940). The lowest amount of fatal cases has been reported in Tocantins (511), Roraima (568), Acre (576), Amapá (613), and Mato Grosso do Sul (626).

São Paulo also has the largest amount of confirmed cases of the disease, 699,493. Next come Bahia (216,030), Ceará (197,619), Rio de Janeiro (194,279), and Pará (177,969). Those with the least people infected are Acre (22,548), Mato Grosso do Sul (36,836), Tocantins (36,989), Amapá (39,518), and Roraima (39,623).
