Brazil reaches 2,733 mi infected with COVID-19

Another 541 people died as a result of COVID-19 in Brazil, as per official figures released Sunday (Aug. 2), bringing the total death toll to 94,103 since March—45 cases for every 100 thousand people. The numbers come from the Health Ministry.

The document includes 2,733 million cases of contamination with the novel coronavirus, including the 25.8 thousand people diagnosed with the disease in 24 hours, with 1,301 cases for every 100 thousand people. According to the ministry, 1,883 million people have restored their health after the infection.

The Southeast has seen 942,948 cases of COVID-19, followed by the Northeast, with 878,1 thousand. In the North, the case tally stands at 414,492. In the Central-West, 259,509. The South has had 238,627.

São Paulo, the most populous and the one with the highest contamination rate of all 27 Brazilian states, registered another 6,397 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, reaching 558,685—1,217 patients contaminated for every 100 thousand people. The state also ranks first for number of deaths: 81 new people killed by the disease on Sunday, raising the total to 23,317 since the pandemic officially began, in March.
