Brazil reports 2,118,646 people diagnosed with COVID-19

The daily update by Brazil’s Health Ministry, released Monday (Jul. 20), reports 632 new deaths from COVID-19 from Sunday to Monday, adding up to 80,120.

The figures also include 20,257 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours. Altogether, 2,118,646 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 across the country since the pandemic started, with 1,409,202 having recovered from the disease.

Also according to the official statistics, 629,324 patients are under observation. There are also 3,946 fatal cases being investigated.

The lethality rate (number of deaths divided by the total amount of cases) stood at 3.8 percent. The mortality (deaths for every 100 thousand people) reached 38.1. The incidence of COVID-19 in every 100 thousand people is 1,008.2.

COVID-19 across the states

São Paulo (19,788), Rio de Janeiro (12,161), Ceará (7,185), Pernambuco (6,036), and Pará (5,538) are the states with the highest COVID-19 death toll. The states with the lowest number of fatal cases are Mato Grosso do Sul (228), Tocantins (299), Roraima (431), Acre (465), and Amapá (515).

São Paulo (416,434) is also the state with the highest amount of infected patients, followed by Ceará (147,566), Rio de Janeiro (141,005), Pará (139,396), and Bahia (123,292). Those with the fewest people infected are Mato Grosso do Sul (16,337), Tocantins (17,898), Acre (17,462), Roraima (25,686), and Rondônia (29,801).
