Brazil tops 65,400 deaths from COVID-19

Brazil reached 65,487 deaths as a result of COVID-19. Another 620 deaths were reported in 24 hours, as per the updated data published by the Health Ministry on Monday (Jul. 6).

The figures include another 20,229 cases of the disease, bringing the total number of infected people to 1,623,284, of whom 927,292 have recovered and 630,505 patients are still being monitored.

The daily statistics from the Health Ministry are lower on Sunday and Monday due to the restriction facing the teams counting municipal and state data. They are higher on Tuesday, when there is a sharper rise due to the accumulated cases not sent in on the weekend.

Regions

The region with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 is the Southeast, with 29,900. The Northeast has registered 21,235 obits; the North, 10,039; the Central-West 2,328; and the South, 1,985.

São Paulo (16,134) and Rio de Janeiro (10,698), both in the Southeast, have the highest death toll, followed by Ceará (6,481), Pará (5,105), and Pernambuco (5.163). The states with the lowest amount of fatal cases are Mato Grosso do Sul (122), Tocantins (224), Roraima (371), Acre (394), and Santa Catarina (406).
