COVID-19: Brazil death toll rises by 653 to 22,666

Brazil’s Health Ministry on Sunday (May 24) published the updated figures on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country. According to the daily report, Brazil has 363,211 confirmed cases of the disease and 22,666 related deaths. Recovered cases add up to 149,911.

From Saturday to Sunday, the ministry saw 15,813 new cases and 653 deaths.

Of the states with the highest number of cases, São Paulo ranks first, with 82,161 confirmed cases and 6,163 deaths. Rio de Janeiro comes second, with 37,912 and 3,993 deaths. Next are Ceará (35,595 cases, 2,324 deaths) and Amazonas (29,867 cases, 1,758 deaths).

Some 190 thousand cases are reported as being monitored, and 3,5 thousand under investigation.
