Brazil’s COVID-19 death toll up 844 to 13,993

Brazil had 844 new deaths in 24 hours, as per the daily report released Thursday (May 14) by the Health Ministry. The total death toll stands at 13,993, up 6.4 percent from the previous day, when 13,149 were reported killed by COVID-19.

As for the new infected, 13,944 were confirmed, adding up to 202,918. This is the highest amount of confirmed cases reported in 24 hours since the beginning of the pandemic in the country. A 7.3 percent increase is seen from Wednesday (13), when the number of infected people was 188,974.

Of the total of confirmed cases, 109,446 (53.9%) are being monitored and 79,479 (39.2%) have recovered. There are also 2 thousand deaths being investigated.

São Paulo is still the epicenter of the disease in the country, with the highest number of obits (4,315), followed by Rio de Janeiro (2,247), Ceará (1,413), Pernambuco (1,298), and Amazonas (1,235). New deaths have also been confirmed in the remaining 22 Brazilian states.
