Coronavirus to reach 70% of population, Bolsonaro says
President Jair Bolsonaro said the new coronavirus is likely to reach 70 percent of the population. He made the statement while talking about Tuesday (Apr. 28), when Brazil saw a record number of deaths from the disease in 24 hours—474.
“The virus will reach 70 percent of the population. Unfortunately, it’s the reality,” he told the press at the Alvorada residence, where he greeted supporters. When asked by reporters about the numbers, the president said, “I’m sorry. What do you want me to do?”

According to updated figures from the Health Ministry, the death toll from COVID-19 went up by 10.4 percent (474) from Monday (Apr. 27) to 5,017. Brazil reported a total of 71,886 people infected. In the last 24 hours, 5,285 cases were added, up 8.1 percent from the previous day.
