The government has included Iran on the list of countries under restrictions for foreigners coming to Brazil by air. The move is to be effective for 30 days.

The list already included China, the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, the UK, Northern Ireland, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea. The restriction on the entry of nationals from these countries is to last 30 days.

The measure is said to follow a recommendation by Brazil’s national sanitary body Anvisa on the exceptional and temporary restriction on entering the country.

The traffic of foreigners needing to make connections in Brazil heading for their countries of origin, however, has been facilitated. In this case, entries are allowed provided they do not leave airports’ international area.

The entry of passengers who made a single connection in a country on a restricted list has also been made flexible.

The resolution also allows flights from restricted nations to refuel in Brazilian territory, as long as passengers do not leave the restricted area.

Immigrants

The decision does not apply to born or naturalized Brazilians, immigrants holding a residence permit, foreigners reuniting with Brazilian family members in the country or those allowed by the government due to public interest.

The measure also does not affect foreign professionals working for international bodies, foreign employees authorized by the Brazilian government, and the transport of cargo.
