Brazil has first death confirmed by coronavirus

The state of São Paulo recorded the first death from the coronavirus in Brazil. According to the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, the victim was a 62-year-old man. The city of São Paulo was declared a state of emergency as of today (17). Under the decree, the city may request goods and services from natural and legal persons, with subsequent payment of fair compensation, and may purchase goods and services for dealing with the emergency without the need for bidding.

According to the State Department of Health, the state of São Paulo has 152 confirmed cases of the disease as of this Monday, with over 1,777 suspected cases of coronavirus. Across Brazil there are 234 confirmed cases, according to the Ministry of Health’s bulletin this Monday.
